The University of Iowa women’s tennis team returns to the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex to face a pair of ranked conference foes this weekend. The Hawkeyes hosts No. 32 Indiana on Friday at 3:30 p.m. (CT), and No. 19 Purdue on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT). SEABORNE SUPREMACY
In her first season on campus, junior Ruth Seaborne has started every match at the top of Iowa’s lineup. The London, England, native owns a 9-5 record at the No. 1 position and is currently ranked No. 85 in the ITA singles rankings. Seaborne is 4-4 against ranked opponents .
DYNAMIC DUO
Junior Ruth Seaborne and sophomore Morven McCulloch own a 12-3 record at the No. 1 doubles position. Iowa’s top doubles team is ranked No. 34 in the ITA doubles rankings.
ANOTHER NUMBERED CHALLENGE
Iowa’s weekend opponents are both rated in the ITA Women’s National Team Rankings. Purdue checks in at No. 19, while Indiana visits Iowa City ranked No. 32. Entering this weekend, the Hawkeyes have faced nine ranked opponents, including five conference foes. The Big Ten has eight teams ranked in the ITA top 75, including Michigan (8), Nebraska (11), Northwestern (12), Purdue (19), Indiana (32), Penn State (33), Ohio State (52) and Illinois (54).
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
No. 32 Indiana is 14-5 overall and tied for second in the conference with a 3-2 record. Leslie Hureau and Kaite Klyczek and ranked Nos. 111 and 112, respectively, in the ITA singles rankings, while Hureau and Sophie Garre are ranked No. 61 in the ITA doubles rankings.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
No. 19 Purdue is tied for second in the Big Ten with a 4-1 conference record. The Boilermakers, 12-2 overall, have the country’s 39th-ranked doubles team in Mara Schmidt and Krisztina Kapitany. The duo is 13-3 overall and recently defeated the No. 2 doubles team in the country of Brooke Bolender and Emina Bektas (UM), 8-5.
UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes return to action on the road against Michigan State on April 13 and No. 10 Michigan on April 14. Both matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. (CT).
