IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa swimming and diving “Gold” team downed the “Black” squad, 196-108, Saturday at the Long Course Intrasquad Meet inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Pool in Iowa City.
Junior Emily Hovren from the black team swam to the victory in the final round of the of the women’s 50 freestyle (27.13), while freshman Olivia Kabacinski touched the wall in 27.21 to finish second.
The gold team claimed victories in the women’s 400-free, 300-butterfly, 300 back, and 300-breastroke relays. The squad of freshmen Allie Orvis and Maggie Hofstadter, and juniors Abbey Tuchscherer and Lindsay Seemann swam a time of 4:02.85 to finish first in the 400-free relay.
Junior Haley Gordon, sophomore Audrey Kumm, and junior Abbey Tuchscherer swam a time of 3:18.47 to finish first in the 300-butterfly relay. Sophomores Gigi Groya and Pamela Breitrick, and Seemann swam a time of 3:25.22 in the 300-backstroke relay. Orvis, Kabacinski and Karolina Wartalowicz finished first in 3:56.90.
The gold team posted victories in the 100 free and 200 IM. Hofstadter posted a victory for the gold team in the 100 free (1:02.25), and Seemann swam to a first place finish in the 200 IM (2:25.36).
On the men’s side, freshmen Roman Trussov and David Ernstsson from the gold squad competed in the men’s 50 freestyle final. Trussov touched the wall in 24.21 to finish first, while Ernstsson was second with a time of 24.66.
The squad of junior Max Behles and freshman Jackson Allen, sophomore Grant Betulius, and junior Gianni Sesto posted a first place finish for the black team in the men’s 400-free relay (3:36.65). The black team also claimed a victory in the 300-butterfly relay. Allen, junior Manuel Belzer and Mike Vinyard posted a time of 3:03.11.
The gold squad of freshmen Andrew Parker and sophomore Chris Freeman, and junior Dustin Rhoads swam a time of 2:58.98 to claim first in the 300-backstroke relay. The gold team also claimed a victory in the 300-breastroke relay when junior Kyle Noser, freshman Quillan Oak and Trussov swam a time of 3:27.24 to finish first.
The gold team posted victories in the 100 free and 200 IM. Ernstsson claimed a victory for the gold squad in the 100 free (53.54), and Noser finished first in the 200 IM (2:13.14).
