BARCELONA — Former University of Iowa women’s diver Deidre Freeman will compete at the 15th FINA World Championships in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events in Barcelona at Piscina Municipal de Montjuic.
Freeman will dive in the 1-meter competition July 21 and the 3-meter event July 26. The former Hawkeye All-American is one of 43 divers in the 3-meter and 40 divers in the 1-meter competitions.
The Grinnell, Iowa, native qualified for the FINA World Championships after winning the 3-meter springboard and finishing as runner-up in the 1-meter springboard at the USA Diving World Championship Trials in May in Tallahassee, Fla. She finished with 579 points to win the 3-meter and was runner-up in the 1-meter with 532.90 points.
Opening ceremonies will take place tonight in Barcelona.
