THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team opens the 2013-14 campaign in the annual Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 9-10. The 54-hole tournament hosted by the University of Nebraska will be held at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club (par 72, 6,251 yards). Live scoring will be available via BirdieFire.com and Huskers.com throughout the tournament.

HAWKEYES TO WATCH
Juniors Lauren English and Shelby Phillips, and sophomore Briana Midkiff, were named 2013-14 Big Ten Women’s Golfers to Watch released Wednesday by the conference.

“The team is excited to get on the road for the first tournament of the season,” said Menzel. “They have worked hard this summer and as a group they collectively saw a lot of good competition this summer which has prepared them well for the start of the season. We have seen some great improvement throughout the whole line-up, and I look forward to watching them compete in Lincoln.”

TOURNAMENT PLAY
Teams and individuals will play 36 holes on Monday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The first two rounds of Monday’s competition will determine pairings for the final 18 holes set to begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. The team score for each round will be determined by the four lowest individual scores.

THE LINE-UP
Lauren English, Karly Grouwinkel, Shelby Phillips, Briana Midkiff, Jessie Sindlinger and Allison Lindley (as an individual) will be competing for the Hawkeyes.

THE COMPETITION
The 13-team field consists of Central Arkansas, Creighton, Houston Baptist, Iowa, Missouri State, Nebraska, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Southern Miss, TAMUCC, UMKC, and Wichita State.

LAST YEAR AT THE CHIP-N-CLUB INVITATIONAL
The Hawkeyes finished 5th last year at the Chip-N-Club Invitational with a 54-hole score of 939 (+75). SMU was crowned champions as they shot a 54-hole score of 903 (+39). English carded a 76 (+4 ) in the final round to place eighth overall in a field of 73 golfers and record her first top-ten finish of her Hawkeye career.
