IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Duane Banks Field transformation project is underway.

University of Iowa grounds crew began cutting out the turf in the infield at the Hawkeye baseball team’s home field on Thursday morning. Construction crews will begin prepping the infield for the new AstroTurf on Friday.

The entire infield will be replaced with the AstroTurf, giving the Iowa baseball program a more weather-friendly playing surface. The project is expected to take five weeks.

The outfield will be transitioned to AstroTurf prior to the 2015 season.
