MADISON, Wis. – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team dropped their final Big Ten Conference road match of the season against Wisconsin, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the McClimon Soccer complex in Madison.

The Badgers struck first in the contest, as Alev Kelter connected with the back of the net via an assist from Cara Walls. Kelter sent the ball under the crossbar and over sophomore Hawkeye goalkeeper Hannah Clark to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead.

One minute into the second half, freshman Bri Toelle sent an equalizer off of the left post and into the goal to knot the score, 1-1. Junior Anne Marie Thomas was credited with the assist.

Wisconsin would net a goal in the 81st minute from Rose Lavelle, her sixth of the season, to give the Badgers a 2-1 lead. Wisconsin would hold on to win and collect their fourth Big Ten conference victory.

“I’m proud of the way we fought,” said head coach Ron Rainey. “But we’re in a bottom-line part of the year. I’d be lying to say I was happy with the result.”

The Hawkeyes were out shot by the Badgers, 17 to 14. Senior Alex Melin and junior Cloe Lacasse both attempted a team-high three shots. Sophomore Hannah Clark made two saves in the contest.

“We still have to figure out how to do some things that aren’t quite as predictable on offense,” Rainey said. “We need to do a better job of recovering after we make mistakes.”

The loss moves the Hawkeyes to 11-4-1 on the season, with a 3-4-1 record in conference play. Iowa returns to play against Penn State on Oct. 25, with the match beginning at 7 p.m. (CT).
