- 24 Hawkeyes to Watch
In our countdown to the start of the 2013-14 hoops season, we will feature all 11 Hawkeyes. Today, we feature sophomore guard Kathryn Reynolds.
Reynolds is a redshirt sophomore from Cincinnati. The former Mount Notre Dame High School standout wears No. 33 for the Hawkeyes. Reynolds (5-foot-7) redshirted last year after suffering an ACL injury. As a freshman in 2011-12, she played in 21 games.
Iowa opens the regular season Nov. 8, hosting UC Riverside inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the Hawkeye Challenge at 6 p.m.
What is it like working with the coaching staff?
“It’s awesome. They are great coaches and great people, and are fun to work with and play for each day.”
Key factor in recruitment:
“A lot had to do with the coaching staff: really good family atmosphere and the program is something that you want to be a part of. Also, my teammates are really good people, and great people to come in and go to battle with every day.”
Facet of game you are working on:
“I’ve worked on my ball handling and defense. I’m trying to get better at both of those areas. As a point guard, both of those are pretty important.”
Team goals:
“As a team, we want to build on last year. Get back to NCAA tournament, be competitive in the Big Ten, and win the Big Ten Championship.”
Story behind your jersey number:
“My brothers and cousins were all number 33 growing up. I don’t know why that is, but I’m just carrying on the tradition.”
Pre-game ritual/superstitions:
“I’m not really one for superstitions to be honest, but a few of my teammates can bust a move and that’s a good way to get us going. Theairra (Taylor) is kind of secretive about it, but she has some moves.”
Summer free time:
“I like to travel. I also like to try to cook and try different restaurants and try new things.”
