Nov. 19, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three members of the University of Iowa field hockey team — Natalie Cafone, Dani Hemeon, and Stephanie Norlander — have been named Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) West Region All-Americans, the organization announced Tuesday. Cafone and Hemeon were named to the first team, while Norlander was selected to the second team.

Cafone led the way for an Iowa offense that ranked first in the Big Ten in goals scored with 69. Cafone posted a team-high 52 points, including 22 goals. Cafone ranked first nationally with 2.48 points per game and third with 1.03 goals per game. The Fairfield, N.J., native started all 21 games this season and ranked first in the Big Ten in points and goals. Cafone was named to the All-Big Ten first team and the All-Big Ten Tournament team.

“Natalie was a consistent and explosive performer the entire season,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “She put points on the board.”

Hemeon finished second on the team in scoring for the Hawkeyes, recording 30 points and 13 goals. She won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 15 after recording a hat trick against Indiana on Oct. 11. Hemeon was named to the All-Big Ten first team, as well as the All-Big Ten Tournament team.

“Dani did a great job of making plays in the midfield,” said Griesbaum. “Her involvement on set pieces was crucial.”

Norlander finished third on the team in scoring this season with 19 points and nine goals. The North Vancouver, Canada native, earned Big Ten Freshman of the week honors twice (Sept. 17, Oct. 15). Norlander was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

“Steph had a solid freshman year,” said Griesbaum. “We look forward to all three of them returning next year.”

Fifty-two Hawkeyes have received regional All-America honors under Griesbaum.

The 2013 Longstreth / NFHCA Division I All-American Teams will be announced on December 2nd.
