THIS WEEK
The No. 23 University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team hosts No.16 Indiana and No. 7 Missouri in a double dual on Jan. 18. The meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m. (CT) inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.

PROMOTIONS
The first 200 fans in attendance will receive free Iowa swimming and diving t-shirts. There will also be a lucky duck competition, with the winner receiving a $50 Herky’s Locker Room gift card.

The meet captains for the double dual are senior Kyle Noser and junior Grant Betulius.
IOWA FINISHES SECOND AT HAWKEYE INVITATIONAL
The Hawkeyes finished second at the Hawkeye Invitational, tallying 977.5 points. The team topped Denver and Milwaukee, while falling to Notre Dame. Iowa finished the three-day invite with10 NCAA `B’ cut times, two top-10 times, and one school record. In the 100-free, Iowa dominated the “A” final, posting a 1-2-3-4-7 finish. Sophomore David Ernstsson (44.72) won the event and was joined by senior Gianni Sesto (44.84), freshman Jackson Halsmer (45.24), sophomore Jackson Allen (45.30), and freshman Josh Gill (45.66). In the diving well, Boschult used a first place finish in the prelims of the platform competition to propel himself to the title during the finals. Boschult bested the school-record, finishing with a total of 373.85 points.
SCOUTING THE DOUBLE DUAL
Missouri enters the double dual ranked seventh in the latest CSCAA poll, released Dec. 11. The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 SEC) fell to No. 15 Virginia Tech and Tennessee their last time out. They are led by junior Sam Tierney who claimed both breaststroke events against Virginia Tech and Tennessee. Senior David Bonuchi led the diving team in the double dual, winning the 3-meter springboard by 42 points.
The 16th-ranked Hoosiers (2-4, 0-0 Big Ten) last competed at the USA Swimming Nationals. Senior Eric Ress led Indiana, placing fourth in the 200-back, while Cody Miller finished sixth in the 200-breast. In the diving well, Indiana is paced by senior Darian Schmidt who has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Week twice this season. Schmidt placed 19th in the 3-meter springboard at the USA Diving Winter Nationals.
HAWKEYES IN THE RANKINGS
The Hawkeyes are ranked 21st in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, released Dec. 11. The Hawkeyes are one of six Big Ten programs ranked in the top 25 along with Michigan (1), Ohio State (11), Minnesota (13), Indiana (T-16), and Penn State (19).
NCAA `B’ CUTS
The Hawkeyes have posted 15 NCAA `B’ cuts, three Zone Diving standards, and one NCAA provisional time on the season. Grant Betulius, Dustin Rhoads, Andrew Marciniak, Roman Trussov, Quillan Oak, and Tyler Lentz have all posted two NCAA `B’ cut times, while David Ernstsson, Andrew Parker, and Chris Freeman have posted one `B’ cut time. Addison Boschult has posted three Zone Diving standards, and the team of Betulius, Marciniak, Rhoads, and Ernstsson posted a provisional qualifying time in the 400 medley relay.
HAWKEYES TO HOST NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The University of Iowa has been selected as the host site for the 2015 Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. This marks the second time that NCAA Men’s Swiming and Diving Championships will be held in Iowa City. The UI hosted the 1927 NCAA Championships at the UI Field House. The announcement also means that the University of Iowa will also host the 2015 Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
BOSCHULT EARNS BIG TEN DIVER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Addison Boschult was named Big Ten Diver of the Week on Dec. 10. Boschult earned the accolade claiming the top spot in the platform competition at the Hawkeye Invitational. Boschults final score of 373.85 is an Iowa record, and an NCAA Zone Diving standard. Boschult also placed sixth in the 3-meter springboard, and eighth in the 1-meter competition. On the year, Boschult has earned NCAA Zone Diving standards in both springboard events, as well as the platform.
TRUSSOV EARNS B1G SWIMMER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Sophomore Roman Trussov was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 5. The Kazakhstan native swam four events against the Gophers, winning two individual events, while placing second and third in a pair of relays. The Swimmer of the Week honor is the first of Trussov’s career and Iowa’s first honoree since 2011. Last season he was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Nov. 6.
HAWKEYES SET WORLD RECORD
Iowa swam to a World Record in the 200 short course meters mixed-medley relay at the Michigan Water Carnival. In the second-to-last event, the Hawkeyes swam to a World Record time when seniors Dustin Rhoads and Andrew Marciniak, junior Haley Gordon and sophomore Olivia Kabacinski finished with a time of 1:47.61. Iowa also bested a previous World Record time in the mixed 200-meter freestyle relay when sophomore Jackson Allen, senior Gianni Sesto, freshman Emma Sougstad and sophomore Allie Orvis posted a time of 1:40.26. Michigan took down the old record, finishing in 1:36.78.
ZITO EARNS B1G FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS
Freshman Nick Zito was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct.1. Competing in his first collegiate dual at defending national champion Michigan, Zito swam four events for the Hawkeyes, placing second twice, third, and seventh. In the 200-yard breaststroke, the Lombard, Ill., native placed second (2:02.10), behind fellow teammate and NCAA qualifier Roman Trussov. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Zito swam the anchor leg, touching out in 3:03.27. He also placed third in the 200-yard IM in 1:54.56, and placing seventh in the 200-yard freestyle.
RETURNING ALL-AMERICANS
The men’s squad returns junior Grant Betulius and senior Andrew Marciniak who earned All-America recognition last season. Betulius earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 100 back as well as being a part of the 200 and 400 medley relays. Marciniak was also a member of both medley relays. Iowa also returns NCAA qualifers David Ernstsson and Roman Trussov. Ernstsson swam in the 800-free relay, while Trussov finished 24th in the 200-breaststroke.
RECORD BREAKING YEAR
The Hawkeyes are coming off a 2012-13 season where nine records were broken. Individually, Grant Betulius (100 back – 46.33), Byron Butler (200 back – 1:43.59, 100 fly – 47.05), Andrew Marciniak (100 breast – 53.59), Roman Trussov (200 breast – 1:55.84), and Tyler Lentz (200 IM – 1:46.15) all captured school records. Jordan Huff, David Ernstsson, Gianni Sesto and Betulius broke the record in the 800 free relay (6:26.79). In the 200 medley relay, the record was broken by Betulius, Korey Schneider, Butler and Huff (1:25.82). The quartet of Betulius, Marciniak, Butler and Huff broke the record in the 400 Medley Relay (3:09.66).
ACADEMIC HONORS
One member from the 2012-13 men’s team was named to the Scholar All-America First Team while two other members were named honorable mention. Byron Butler was named to the first team after being an honorable mention selection in 2011-12. Joining Butler were teammates Dustin Rhoads and Manuel Belzer. For Belzer, it is his second consecutive year earning honorable mention recognition, while Rhoads earned the distinction for the first time. The team was recognized as a CSCAA All-America Team for the third time in program history.
HEAD COACH MARC LONG
Marc Long is in his 10th season as head coach for the University of Iowa swimming team. It’s his eighth as head coach of the combined program. During his tenure as head coach of both programs, 75 school records have fallen and 112 Hawkeyes have provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
COACHING ADDITIONS
Brandon King is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Iowa swimming and diving program. King joins the Hawkeyes out of Naperville, Ill., where he served as a senior assistant coach alongside decorated head coach Dave Krotiak for the Fox Valley Swim Team from 2011-13. During his time with the program, King assisted the Illinois Senior Coach of the Year and coached multiple swimmers competing at the Junior Nationals, Grand Prix meets and Olympic Trials.
CAMPUS RECREATION AND WELLNESS CENTER
Ground was broken for the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in October 2007. The facility opened in August 2010 and is home for the Hawkeyes. It is located at the corner of Burlington and Madison streets and cost approximately $69 million. The facility includes a 50-meter competition pool, a separate diving well, a leisure pool with lap lanes and 24,000 square feet of fitness space.
IOWA SWIMMING AND DIVING TRADITION
Iowa was one of the first schools in the nation to compete on a collegiate level and competed at the first NCAA Championship. From 1937 to 1960, Iowa placed in the NCAA top 10 18 times, crowning nine NCAA and 22 Big Ten champions.
