EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team squared off against Alabama, the No. 12-ranked team in the country, on the final day of competition at the Wildcat Winter Duals hosted by Northwestern University on Sunday.

“We got a lot out of this weekend,” said UI head coach Katie Dougherty. “Not as many wins as we would have liked, but we had lots of matches against high level opponents. We know the things we need to work on moving forward.”

Senior Ruth Seaborne, the No. 56-ranked singles player in the country, picked up her second win of the weekend on Sunday. After falling in the first set 4-6, Seaborne came back strong and won the next two, 7-5, 1-0 (4), to pick up a victory against Danielle Spielmann of Alabama. On Saturday, Seaborne knocked off DePaul’s Ana Vladutu, the No. 52-ranked singles player.

The Hawkeyes open up the spring season with a double header at home next Saturday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Iowa squares off against Nebraska-Omaha at 12 p.m. (CT) and follow up with Northern Iowa at 5 p.m. (CT).

“I am excited to see this team compete next weekend when we open up the dual season,” said Dougherty.
