Iowa, NCAA to Recognize Volunteer of the Year

Feb. 17, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s basketball team and the NCAA are accepting nominations for the Volunteer of the Year from the Iowa City community.

The Volunteer of the Year Promotion runs through February 28 in conjunction with the overall community service efforts that surround the Women’s Final Four in Nashville.

The NCAA is celebrating the community service efforts of all of women’s basketball programs with an emphasis on the 20 host sites for the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship. As part of the celebration, the NCAA is honoring one person in each of those communities who goes above and beyond in their community.

Each site will announce its Volunteer of the Year on February 28, as well as honor this person at a game during the Championship. In addition to being recognized in their community, the stories of these volunteers will be told throughout the Women’s Final Four in Nashville.

Fans can nominate someone in the Iowa City community by emailing gohawks@hawkeyesports.com. These volunteers will be selected based on contributions to their community and the example they set for others, which is what women’s basketball programs exemplify on a daily basis.

Iowa’s First and Second Round Games will be played Sunday, March 23 (4:30 and 7 p.m.) and Tuesday, March 25 (8:30 p.m.). The UI was one of 16 sites chosen to host First and Second Round Games, and 1-of-8 chosen to host in back-to-back years.

Fans can order tickets by calling 1-800-IA-HAWKS, visiting the Carver-Hawkeye Arena ticket office, or by visiting hawkeyesports.com.
