Hawkeyes Set to Host Iowa Invitational

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa track and field team hosts the Iowa Invitational on Friday. The Hawkeyes will compete against Simpson College, Iowa Wesleyan, Western Illinois, Bradley, Drake, and Central College. The event will be held at the UI Recreation Building with field events beginning at 4 p.m. (CT) and running events following at 5 p.m. (CT). Admission is free.

PROMOTIONS
Friday is student day. Free pizza and pop will be served to all University of Iowa students beginning at 4 p.m. Students will also have the chance to win a $50 Visa gift card. The first 100 fans at Friday’s meet will receive a free Iowa track and field water bottle.

DELAUNAY MAKING LEAPS
Sophomore Klyvens Delaunay posted a personal-best triple jump leap of 52-1 1/4 (15.88m) at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 15. His mark ties for second all-time at Iowa, second in the Big Ten, and 16th in the nation.

MILLER CLIMBS THE CHARTS
Zinnia Miller recorded a personal-best triple jump mark at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 15. Her mark of 41-2 1/2 (12.56m) ranks third all-time at Iowa and fifth in the Big Ten.

DOCHERTY CLOCKS PERSONAL BEST
Freshman Kevin Docherty knocked Director of Track and Field Larry Wieczorek out of Iowa’s all-time top 10 list with his performance in the men’s 3,000 meters. Docherty clocked a personal-best time of 8:16.58 to finish third. His time ranks 10th all-time at Iowa.

4X4 CLOCKS SEASON BEST
The women’s 1,600-meter relay team clocked a season-best time at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 15. The quartet of freshman Elexis Guster, sophomore MonTayla Holder, and freshmen Mahnee Watts and Alexis Hernandez crossed the line in 3:38.62. Their time ranks third all-time at Iowa and fourth in the Big Ten.

LEWIS HEATS UP
Kevin Lewis recorded a personal-best 5,000 meters time at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 14. His time of 14:13.57 ranks fifth all-time at Iowa and ninth in the Big Ten.

COMPETITION IN THE WEIGHT THROW
Three current Hawkeyes hold weight throw top 10 marks. Senior Ashlyn Gulvas holds the school record (63-6; 19.35m). Senior Jasmine Simpson’s mark of 62-6 1/2 (19.06m) ranks second, while junior Annemie Smith (60-0 1/4; 18.29m) ranks fourth. The trio each recorded season bests marks at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 14.

DEPTH IN THE 800
Four current Hawkeyes hold 800 meters top 10 times. Freshman Katharina Trost’s time of 2:07.38 ranks fourth all-time at Iowa, while senior Adrianne Alexia’s time of 2:08.95 ranks fifth. Sophomore Kaitlyn Nelson (2:09.58) and freshman Mahnee Watts (2:09.90) rank seventh and eighth, respectively.

2014 BIG TEN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships are set for Feb. 28-March 1 in Geneva, Ohio. The event will take place at the SPIRE Institute, one of the world’s largest indoor Olympic-grade multi-sport training complexes. For tickets to the event visist:http://www.spireinstitute.org.

MEET THE RECORD HOLDERS
Senior Ashlyn Gulvas set the indoor weight throw school record (63-6; 19.35m) at the 2013 Iowa Invitational, while Brittany Brown and Lake Kwaza set the 60 meters record (7.41) at the Big 4 Duals on Jan. 18. Ethan Holmes ran the second leg on the school-record holding 1,600-meter relay team (3:06.66) at the Last Chance Relay on March 5, 2011.

NEXT ON THE BLOCK
The Hawkeyes travel to Geneva, Ohio for the Big Ten Championships of Feb. 28-March 1.
