MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Iowa diving team wrapped up the first day of competition Monday evening at the 2014 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Hawkeye women competed on the 1-meter springboard while the men took to the 3-meter event. Redshirt junior Abby Grilli paced the women to an eighth place finish while sophomore Addison Boschult finished 17th for the men.

“The team competed very well today with Addison and Abby scoring personal lifetime bests,” said UI diving coach Todd Waikel. “I am happy with their diving and look forward to competition tomorrow.”

During Monday morning’s prelims on the 1-meter, Grilli qualified for the 18-person final in 10th place overall with a six-dive score of 291.80. In the finals, Grilli improved her position two spots to finish eighth with a total score of 596.00.
