IOWA CITY, Iowa — Hawkeye Wrestling Club members Daniel Dennis and Bobby Telford were among the 102 athletes who qualified last weekend for the 2016 United States Olympic Wrestling Team Trials, hosted by the University of Iowa on April 9-10.
Dennis won the 57 kg/125.5 lb. men’s freestyle bracket, while Telford placed third at 125 kg/275 lbs. at the U.S. Senior National/Trials Qualifier in Las Vegas. It is the largest qualifying event in the #Road2IowaCity qualifying series. The next #Road2IowaCity Trials Qualifiers event is the Dave Schultz Memorial International at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jan. 28-30, 2016.
The Hawkeye Wrestling Club has four members qualified for the Olympic Trials, including Dennis, Telford, and 2015 U.S. World Team members Tony Ramos (57 kg/125.5 lbs.) and Brent Metcalf (65 kg/143 lbs.).
