THIS WEEK FOR THE HAWKEYES
The University of Iowa women’s tennis team faces the University of Indiana for a Big Ten matchup in Bloomington on Saturday, March 12. Action begins at 10 a.m. (CT).
TAKING ON No. 50, INDIANA
The Hawkeyes have faced the Hoosiers 42 times in program history. The last time Iowa faced Indiana was in 2015. Indiana was ranked 52 in the nation at the time, and defeated the Hawkeyes, 3-4.
HUCKLEBY UNDEFEATED
Freshman Adorabol Huckleby is undefeated in singles play this season. She is 8-0, winning her last match in Chicago against Jarret Fisher of No. 53 DePaul. Huckleby defeated Fisher, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 6 singles spot. She is 6-0 at home, and 2-0 on the road.
DOUBLES FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH
Juniors Aimee Tarun and Natalie Looney have played almost every doubles match together this season. The duo has been teamed together for 12 matches, with a record of 10-2. Prior to the 2016 season the two had never played a doubles match together.
DOUGLAS ITA RANKING
Sophomore Zoe Douglas is ranked No. 112 in the latest ITA tennis singles poll. Douglas has been ranked since the second week in February and holds a 7-1 record this season in singles. She is the only Hawkeye ranked nationaly.
FACING RANKED TEAMS
Iowa will face another ranked team this season on Saturday at Indiana. The Hoosiers are ranked 50th in the nation in the latest ITA women’s tennis rankings. Indiana will be the fifth ranked team Iowa has faced this season, the first four were Oregon, Oklahoma, Nebraska and DePaul on the road. The Hawkeyes defeated seven ranked opponents in 2010, Coach Dougherty’s first season with the Hawkeyes, finishing the season 17-7. Iowa last win against a ranked opponent was in 2014, when the Hawkeyes defeated No. 42 University of Illinois, 4-3.
IOWA VS. B1G
Indiana will be the second Big Ten team Iowa has faced this season. Nebraska was the first, where the Hawkeyes fell, 5-2, to the Huskers. Iowa has 10 matches left this season against Big Ten Teams. Five of them will be at home in the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
COMING UP FOR THE HAWKEYES
Following its match against Indiana, the Hawkeyes return home for three Big Ten matches against Maryland, Wisconsin, and Minnesota in late March.
