Burak, Meyer Earn NWCA Academic Honor

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa wrestlers Nathan Burak and Alex Meyer were named to the 2016 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I All-Academic Team, the NWCA announced Monday.

The academic team is made up of 116 total athletes, including five NCAA Champions, two NCAA runner-ups and 36 All-Americans.

Burak, a health and human physiology major, placed fourth at 197 pounds to earn All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Championships. He is a three-time NCAA All-American and three-time member of the NWCA All-Academic team.

Meyer, a chemistry and human physiology major, placed eighth at his first NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors. The NWCA academic honor is the first of his career.

Iowa has had at least one representative on the NWCA All-Academic team every year since Tom Brands was named head coach in 2006.
