IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa midfielder Natalie Winters has been named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Friday.  Winters is the first Hawkeye to earn the distinction since 2013.

The Michigan native started all 19 games where she finished third among Iowa positional players with 1,437 minutes played.  Winters scored two goals, tallied three assists, and fired 35 shots — the third-most on the team.

Winters is the first Iowa player to earn Big Ten All-Freshman team honors since Amanda Lulek in 2013.  She is the ninth Hawkeye honoree all-time.

Sophomore Morgan Kemerling was Iowa’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient. The distinction is presented to student-athletes who display sportsmanship and ethical behavior, are in good academic standing, and demonstrate good citizenship outside of athletics.

Iowa finished the 2016 campaign with an 8-11 overall record and a 2-9 mark in Big Ten action.
