IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa baseball standout Joel Booker will play in the 58th-annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Booker is an outfielder for the Kannapolis Intimidators, a Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
The Columbus, North Carolina, native is hitting .313 (63-of-201) — seventh in the South Atlantic League — through 51 games as Kannapolis’ leadoff hitter and centerfielder. Booker ranks second in the league in runs (42) and fourth in hits, while posting a .379 on-base and .408 slugging percentage. He also leads the team with 12 steals.
Booker, a first-team All-Big Ten and first-team all-region selection for the Hawkeyes in 2016, was also an Arizona League All-Star last season — his first in professional baseball.
The South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be held June 20 at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia, South Carolina.
