LAS VEGAS — University of Iowa sophomore Jeremiah Moody and freshman Jacob Warner won UWW Junior freestyle national titles on Saturday at the 2018 Marines Corps U.S. Open.
Warner outscored his opponents 41-0 to win the 92 kg bracket. Moody went 4-0 in the 65 kg bracket, winning his final three matches by a combined four points.
Both wrestlers earned automatic bids to the best-of-three finals at the Junior Freestyle World Team Trials in Rochester, Minnesota, on May 18-20. Freshman Max Murin and Myles Wilson also qualified for the World Team Trials with top eight finishes. Murin placed runner-up at 65 kg, and Wilson placed eighth at 86 kg.
The top eight freestyle finishers in each weight class earn a berth at the 2018 UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials in Rochester, Minnesota, on May 18-19. The winners of that tournament advance to the Junior World Championships in Trvava, Slovakia on August 17-23.
