LAS VEGAS — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team picked up two singles wins and one doubles win at the 2018 Rebel Tennis Women’s Invitational, hosted at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. They also took four singles wins and one doubles win in consolation matches.
Freshman Samantha Mannix secured the first win of the day for the Hawkeyes in the first flight singles. She won the match 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 win over Kennedy Bridgforth of Texas Tech.
Sophomore Danielle Burrich followed Mannix with a win in the sixth flight singles, defeating Rebekah Anderson of Liberty University 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Sophie Clark and Michelle Bacalla ended the day with a 6-4 doubles win over Barnickel and Lieberman of the Air Force Academy.
The Hawkeyes dominated the consolation matches, beginning with a 6-4, 6-1 victory from Sophie Clark over Nidhi Surapeneni of North Texas.
Following Clark, Elise Van Heuvelen defeated Ashleigh Harvey of the Air Force Academy 6-1, 6-4 in flight four of singles. In singles flight five, Ashleigh Jacobs took down another Air Force player Alex Kuo 6-1, 6-3. Cloe Ruette completed the trifecta of wins over Air Force with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Amanda Reinhart.
In consolation doubles, the team of Mannix and Jacobs defeated Wilson and Westbrooks of Arizona 6-1 in flight one to end the Saturday session for the Hawkeyes.
Singles and Doubles Finals will start tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. (PT).
