Hawkeyes Claim NFHCA West Region Coaching Staff of the Year

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa field hockey coaching staff — Lisa CellucciMichael Boal, and Roz Ellis — have been named NFHCA West Region Coaching Staff of the Year, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Thursday. 
 
Led by fifth-year head coach Lisa Cellucci, the Hawkeyes went 14-7 (4-4), the most wins for the program since 2011. Iowa qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012 and 23rd time in program history.  
 
Boal completed his fifth season along with former Hawkeye and two-time first team All-Big Ten selection Roz Ellis who joined the staff as an assistant coach last summer. 
 
The Hawkeyes became the first ever six seed to advance to the Big Ten Championship after beating No. 7 Penn State, 3-2, in the quarterfinals and No. 7 Michigan, 2-1, in the semifinals. Iowa fell in the Big Ten Championship to national runner-up Maryland, 2-1.  
 
Iowa finished the season ranked seventh nationally and posted many signature moments, including a six-game winning streak in the nonconference, a four-game shutout streak, and seven wins over top-25 opponents. 
 
The Hawkeye coaching staff mentored three All-Big Ten, five All-West, and two All-America selections this season.
