Gustafson Named Finalist for 2019 Lisa Leslie Award

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s basketball senior Megan Gustafson has been named one of five finalists for the 2019 Lisa Leslie Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced Friday.
 
Named after the three-time All-American and 1994 National Player of the Year, the annual award recognizes the top centers in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball.
 
Gustafson leads the country in field goal percentage (69.6), points per game (28.0), total points (897), and field goals made (369), ranks second in double-doubles (30) and defensive rebounds per game (10.0), third in total rebounds (424), and fourth in rebounds per game (13.3).
 
The Port Wing, Wisconsin, native is the only Hawkeye in program history to win the Big Ten Conference’s player of the year award twice. She is the ninth two-time Big Ten Player of the Year in conference history.
 
The winner of the 2019 Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award is determined by a combination of fan votes and input from the Basketball Hall of Fame’s selection committee. Fans can vote at www.HoophallAwards.com from March 15-29.
 
The winner of the award will be revealed during the WBCA Coaches’ All-America/Naismith Starting 5 Presentation on Thursday, April 4, at the Women’s Final Four in Tampa, Florida.
 
The NCAA Women’s Basketball Selection Show airs Monday, March 18 at 6 p.m. (CT) on ESPN. Fans are invited to attend a Big Ten Championship celebration and NCAA Watch Party on Monday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
