LINCOLN, Nebraska — Hawkeye Wrestling Club members Kayla Miracle and Alli Ragan won their respective Final X finals on Saturday to earn spots on the 2019 United States World Team and advance to the 2019 World Wrestling Championships in Nursultan, Kazakhstan, on Sept. 14-22, 2019.

Ragan swept her series 10-0, 10-0 against HWC teammate Lauren Louive and will represent Team USA at 59 kg. Miracle swept Mallory Velte, 12-2, 4-0 in the 62 kg finals. They are the second and third members of the HWC to advance to the 2019 World Championships. HWC member Forrest Molinari won a Final X best-of-three series at Rutgers on June 8. She is the United States women’s freestyle representative at 65 kg.

Thomas Gilman, a 2017 World silver medalist, dropped a best-of-three series to Daton Fix in the 57 kg finals. Gilman responded from a 9-1 loss in the first match with a 3-2 win in the second, forcing a deciding third match. He lead 3-3 on criteria with one minute remaining, but gave up a takedown with 28 seconds left. Gilman challenged the call, but it was upheld, giving Fix the final 6-3 win. The 2019 World Championships marks the first time since 2013 a former Hawkeye will not represent Team USA at 57 kg (Tony Ramos 2014, 2015; Daniel Dennis 2016; Thomas Gilman 2017, 2018).
