Minneapolis, Minn. – University of Iowa freshman Erika Dodridge won the Draw D championship at the Gopher Invitational on Sunday.

In her first collegiate tournament, Dodridge bested Oumaima Aziz from Iowa State in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

The rest of the team also had success in Minneapolis on Sunday, winning three doubles rounds.

In the first round of the doubles play,  junior Danielle Burich teamed up with Dodridge to beat Isabella Sullivan and Alex Revenig from North Dakota, 6-1. In the second round, Burich and sophomore Cloe Ruette beat Chie Kezuka and Margarita Timakova from Iowa State, 6-1. Jacobs and Bauers added a win against Frida Soko and Jaylee Yasunage from North Dakota, 6-0.
“It was great to get match play in all weekend. We needed the good competition,” said Iowa head coach Sasha Schmid. “I am really proud of Erika. She competed so well in her first college tournament. We learned a lot and we can take away many things from the weekend to work on before we go to regionals in a few weeks.”
