KALAMAZOO, Mich. – University of Iowa sophomores Michelle Bacalla and Cloe Ruette won a pair of doubles matches on the second day of the WMU Fall Invite.

In the third round of doubles, Bacalla and Ruette beat Logan White and Emily Neal from Butler, 6-1. In the fourth round of doubles, Bacalla and Ruette defeated Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Jeryn Jack of Western Michigan, 6-4.

In singles Bacalla fell to Aspasia Avgeri from DePaul in three sets: 6-1, 1-6, 10-3. Ruette lost to Izzy Marshall from Illinois – Chicago, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

“I thought we came out and played some good, aggressive doubles today,” said assistant coach Daniel Leitner. “Singles was good for short stretches, but we definitely have to make some adjustments and find a way to play and compete better in close situations.”

The Hawkeyes continue action at the WMU Fall Invite Sunday at 9 a.m. (CT).
