IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa redshirt junior Dylan Nedved was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sunflower Collegiate League All-Star Game on Saturday night in Wichita, Kansas.
Nedved, an infielder/right-handed pitcher from Shawnee, Kansas, helped the West team to an 8-0 victory at Wichita State University’s Eck Stadium. He finished the game 2-for-5 with a game-high four RBIs and two runs scored. He had a bases-clearing, three-run triple in the second inning.
Nedved also pitched a shutout seventh inning in relief, allowing two hits and striking out a pair.
“I was really excited to get the opportunity to play with such great ball players,” Nedved said following the game. “After having no competition (in the spring), it has been so nice to have great competition this summer.”
In 28 games for the Hutchinson Monarchs this summer, Nedved is hitting .388 (45-of-116) with 10 doubles, one triple, and four home runs. He has scored 26 runs, 21 RBIs, nine steals, and a 1.050 OPS. Nedved’s .388 batting average ranks fourth in the league.
On the mound, Nedved has one save in one appearance, striking out the only batter he has faced.
Nedved’s performance has helped Hutchinson to a 23-5 record, which ties them with the Cheney Diamond Dawgs atop the SCL standings.
