Hawkeyes Make Historic Climb Up Team Rankings

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman Alexa Noel has climbed to No. 24 in the International Tennis Association women’s tennis singles rankings released by the ITA on Wednesday. The ranking is the highest of any singles player in the history of Iowa Women’s Tennis.

Noel is 18-0 this season and has won 16 of those 18 matches in straight sets, all at the No. 1 position.

She is joined the ITA rankings by senior Elise van Heuvelen, who is appearing at No. 76, the highest ranking of her career. Van Heuvelen is 12-4 playing No. 2 singles and 13-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Noel and van Heuvelen have the Hawkeyes ranked 37th in the ITA team rankings, their highest ranking since Iowa was ranked No. 30 in 2011.

Iowa is 8-4 in the Big Ten this season. The eight conference wins are the most by a Hawkeye team since 2006 (9). Iowa has four matches remaining in the Big Ten regular season, starting Sunday at 11 a.m. against Nebraska. Iowa will recognize four seniors on its senior day.
