IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 2 University of Iowa field hockey team (9-2, 5-2) fell to No. 13 Maryland (6-3, 4-2), 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Grant Field.
The Hawkeyes recorded 10 shots with five shots on goal but were not able to net any.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams put up a tough front from the start. Iowa only allowed Maryland one shot in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Iowa tallied six shots, but the match remained scoreless at half.
Maryland broke the silence in the third quarter with a goal off a penalty corner to take the lead 1-0.
Iowa tried to even the score, but the Terrapins held the Hawkeyes shotless in the fourth to win the match.
