IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Adam Mazur has been named a Perfect Game preseason All-Big Ten selection, it was announced Friday.
The Woodbury, Minnesota, native transferred to the Hawkeyes from South Dakota State in the offseason. During his two seasons as the Jackrabbits’ Friday night starter, Mazur went 3-9 with a 5.50 ERA and had 106 strikeouts over 88 1/3 innings.
Last summer, Mazur had a breakout summer on the Cape, as he was named a Cape Cod All-League Team selection after going 3-0 with a 1.55 ERA for the Wareham Gateman. He made six starts, striking out 34 (to six walks) over 29 innings and surrendered just 18 hits.
Mazur is ranked as the No. 2 draft prospect in the Big Ten by Perfect Game for the 2022 class. Redshirt junior Peyton Williams is tabbed as the ninth-best 2022 draft prospect.
The Hawkeyes open official team practice on Jan. 28. Iowa will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, for the Swig & Swine Classic from Feb. 18-20 and the team will face Air Force in its season opener.
