IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa utility player Keaton Anthony has been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the league office. It is Anthony’s second honor of the season.
The Hoschton, Georgia, native earned the distinction after hitting .500 (5-for-10) with five runs and four RBIs during Iowa’s three-game road series at UC Irvine. Anthony posted a .571 on-base and .800 slugging percentage on the weekend.
Anthony hit safely (and had a double) in all three games, running his hitting streak to 11 games and his on-base streak to 14 contests. He had multi-hit games in two of the three games, his sixth and seventh such games this season.
In game one, Anthony went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and he finished 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs in the Hawkeyes’ 12-10 win over the Anteaters in the series finale.
Anthony is leading the team in doubles (9) and is tied for top on-base percentage (.507), while ranking second in batting average (.396), runs (15), RBIs (13), slugging percentage (.679), hits (21) and home runs (2).
Anthony was previously honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Feb. 23.
The Hawkeyes (8-7) return to action Friday, hosting No. 12/17 Texas Tech in the first of a three-game series at Duane Banks Field. The game is the first of a season-long eight game homestand.
