IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa baseball team will host Western Illinois at 6:05 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday at Duane Banks Field. Admission for the midweek tilt is $2.
The Hawkeyes have won seven of their last eight, 10 of 13 and 15 of 20 games to improve to 23-13 overall. Iowa took two of three games at No. 8 Rutgers last weekend in Piscataway for its first road series win over a ranked opponent since 2019.
Western Illinois brings a 4-32 overall record into Tuesday’s game. The Leathernecks have lost nine straight games dating back to April 9 – a 5-2 victory over South Dakota State.
The Hawkeyes will send southpaw Benjamin DeTaeye to the mound for his first career start. The Clive, Iowa, native is 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA in seven appearances, spanning 9 1/3 innings. In his last two outings against Milwaukee (4/12) and Minnesota (4/17), DeTaeye has allowed two hits over four innings, while fanning six.
Western Illinois will start RHP Jacob Greenan, who is 0-2 with a 12.86 ERA.
Iowa is 6-1 in midweek contests this season where it is averaging 8.7 runs per game. The Hawkeyes are hitting .312 as a team with 25 extra-base hits and the pitching staff has a 3.74 ERA with 102 strikeouts over 65 innings.

Following the midweek game, Iowa will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a three-game series at Nebraska. Friday’s series opener will be televised live on BTN.
