Hawkeyes Host Redbirds on Tuesday in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa baseball team will host Illinois State on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. (CT) at Duane Banks Field. It is the Hawkeyes’ final home midweek game of the season. Admission is $2.

Iowa brings a 26-14 overall record into the contest. The Hawkeyes have won eight of their last 10 games and are 7-1 in midweek contests this season.

Illinois State is 17-22 overall and 5-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Redbirds won two of three games over Dallas Baptist last weekend in Normal, but Illinois State has lost seven of its last 11 games dating back to mid-April.

Iowa will send right-hander Duncan Davitt to the mound for his fourth start. The Indianola, Iowa, native is 3-1 with a 3.43 ERA in 12 appearances, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 15 hits over 21 innings. Davitt has 36 strikeouts against eight walks and is limiting hitters to a .195 average.

It is Davitt’s first start since March 21 against St. Thomas.

The Hawkeyes won two of three games in Lincoln despite scoring just seven runs in three games. Iowa hit .208 as a team with six extra-base hits. Overall, the Hawkeyes are hitting .272 as a team while averaging six runs per game.

Redshirt sophomore Peyton Williams ranks in the top-10 in the Big Ten in six categories. The first baseman is leading the conference in on-base percentage (.500), ranks second in slugging (.711) and OPS (1.211), fourth in batting average (.383), fifth in doubles (15) and 10th in triples (2).

Williams has 10 home runs, matching Ben Norman’s season total from a season ago, while scoring 39 runs and driving in 33. Redshirt freshman Keaton Anthony is hitting .347 with a team-high 17 doubles and 37 RBIs.

Following the midweek contest, Iowa will host Purdue for a three-game series from May 6-8 at Duane Banks Field. Friday’s series opener is set for a 6:05 p.m. (CT) first pitch.
