Charlotte, N.C. — University of Iowa women’s tennis student-athletes finished strong on Sunday in the final day of the Charlotte Invite. The Hawkeyes posted another three wins to complete their first tournament of the fall season.
Vipasha Mehra and Anya Lamoreaux took the court for the Hawkeyes’ lone doubles match of the day, defeating Maquet/Wilkins of Charlotte 7-6(3).
The day came to a solid end with two rounds of singles. Mehra bounced Arcas of Charlotte in a three-set match, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(10-7). Lamoreaux kept the wins rolling against Friedland of Penn State in another three-set match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Pia Kranholdt did not compete on Sunday.
“We competed really well all weekend,” said associate coach Danny Leitner. “They managed difficult situations the right way, and the level of tennis got better as the weekend went along. We’re excited to have started the fall semester on a good note.”
The Hawkeyes travel to San Diego, California, next weekend to continue fall competition in the Intercollegiate Championships.
