SAN DIEGO, California — The four student-athletes representing University of Iowa women’s tennis at this weekend’s Intercollegiate Championships wrapped up day three with three singles and one double victory on Saturday.
In doubles action, the Hawkeye duo of Daianne Hayashida and Vipasha Mehra advanced to the finals by virtue of beating Arizona’s Nevenhoven and Ryngler, a previous No. 13 ranked prospect in the country, 6-2. Doubles competition came to an end for Samantha Mannix and Marisa Schmidt, who fell to Skrobonja/Detkovskaya of San Diego State in the semifinals, 6-3.
In singles competition, Hayashida recorded another win against Matilde Morais of North Texas 6-1, 6-2. Mehra defeated Detkovskaya of San Diego State in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Lastly, Schmidt was victorious over Jasmine Adams of North Texas, 6-2, and retired for the rest of tournament play. Mannix fell to North Texas’ Gloria Alogo, 6-2, 6-4.
Two Hawkeyes, Hayashida and Mehra, will compete for the doubles championship on Sunday at noon (CT).
