CORALVILLE, Iowa – Fourteen University of Iowa wrestlers advanced to the semifinals at the Soldier Salute on Thursday during the second session at Xtream Arena.
The Hawkeyes have multiple semifinalists at three different weight classes, including three at 197. Iowa has a semifinalist at nine different weight classes.
Top-ranked Spencer Lee racked up 19 points on his way to a tech. fall in his second match at 125 pounds and redshirt freshman Drake Ayala tallied up 23 points in a 23-8 tech. fall against Jack Palmer from Bellarmine.
The Hawkeyes got technical falls from Real Woods at 141 and Max Murin at 149. Murin is joined in the semifinals by teammates Joel Jesuroga and Caleb Rathjen.
Sophomore Patrick Kennedy needed only 30 seconds to pin Cole Nance at 165. He was joined by Abe Assad and Tony Cassioppi who pinned their opponents in 1:29 and 1:12 respectively. Cullan Schriever, Brennan Swafford, Kolby Franklin and Zach Glazier also advanced to the semifinals.
Session III of the Soldier Salute will begin at noon (CT) on Friday. The action will be streamed live on BTN+.
