Kris Murray Named Sporting News All-American

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa men’s basketball junior forward Kris Murray has been named a third team All-American by Sporting News on Tuesday.

Sporting News is one of four outlets used by the NCAA to determine its consensus All-America teams (Associated Press, National Association of Basketball Coaches, United States Basketball Writers Association, and Sporting News).

The Hawkeyes have had a student-athlete earn All-America honors by Sporting News five of the last eight seasons, including the last four. Keegan Murray was a first team honoree in 2022; Luka Garza earned first team recognition in 2020 and 2021; while Jarrod Uthoff was a second team selection in 2016.

Murray is also a semifinalist for the Wooden and Oscar Robertson national player of the year awards, and the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Award.

Murray is averaging a team-best 20.5 points and eight rebounds per outing. He is the only Division I player to average 20+ points, 8+ rebounds, and have made 60+ 3-pointers this season.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native has scored 30+ points four times this season, 25+ points nine times, and 20+ points 15 times.

Murray and the Hawkeyes (19-12) return to action on Thursday in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. The game will be televised nationally on Big Ten Network and broadcast on the Hawkeye Radio Network.
