IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team heads to Indiana to the Terre Haute Regional as a No. 2 seed, it was announced Monday during an NCAA Baseball Tournament Selection Show on ESPN2.
The Hawkeyes will face No. 3 seed North Carolina on Friday, June 2 (CT) at 6 p.m. (CT). No. 1 seed Indiana State faces No. 4 Wright State at Noon. The game will be broadcast on the ACCN.
Iowa is making its third NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Rick Heller and the sixth in school history. The Hawkeyes earned an at large selection to the tournament after finishing third in the Big Ten and runner up at the Big Ten Tournament. Iowa is 42-14 overall – the 42 wins are the second-most victories in school history.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are the regional’s 3 seed after winning 35 games.
North Carolina has a .285 team batting average and averages 7.5 runs per game. The Tar Heels are led by Tomas Frick with a .329 batting average and Hunter Stokley with a .323 average. Along with Frick and Stokley, three other North Carolina regulars hit above .300. On the mound, the Tar Heels have a 4.73 team ERA and 502 strikeouts over 504 2/3 innings.
Terre Haute Regional tickets will go on sale to the general public via the Indiana State ticket office starting Tuesday, May 30, at 4 p.m. ET.
