• The Hawkeyes arel 43-14. Iowa is one win away from tying the program wins record set in 1981.
• This is Iowa’s sixth regional apperance and third under head coach Rick Heller. The Hawkeyes have apperances in
1972, 1975, 1990, 2015, 2017, and 2023)
• Heller is now tied with Duane Banks (1970-1997) for most regional apperances in school history.
• Heller recorded his 300th win at Iowa on April 14 against Minnesota. Heller is the third coach in Hawkeye history
to reach 300 (Duane Banks and Otto Vogel). He recorded his 1,000th career win on May 6 against Ohio State. Heller
has the 10th most wins among active coaches.
• The Hawkeyes got off to their best start in program history (19-3), passing the 1939 team (18-4).
• Iowa comes into the regional outscoring its opponents 466-241, they were averaging 8.3 runs per game. That
ranked 23rd in the nation.
• The pitching staff had a 4.04 ERA good for 11th in the nation. The Iowa staff ranked second in the country in
hits allowed per nine innings (6.68), fifth in strikeouts per nine (11.0), and the Iowa defense has a .981 fielding
percentage which ranked 14th in the country. The Hawkeyes have a .298 batting average. Iowa ranked 14th in the
nation in on base percentage (.418), 20th in the nation in runs scored, 25th with 126 doubles, and 27th with 311
walks.
• Brody Brecht led the country in hits allowed per nine innings (4.50) and Marcus Morgan ranked fifth (5.37).
Brecht ranked 32nd in strikeouts with 101.
2023: IOWA-INDIANA STATE
• The Hawkeyes and the Sycamores met on February 17 to open the season. Iowa won 6-2 in 11 innings.
• Kyle Huckstorf was 2-for-5 and hit a walk-off grand slam in the 11th inning. The first of nine grand slams on the
year for the Hawkeyes,
• Michael Seegers was 2-for-4 and Sam Petersen and Sam Hojnar each tallied an RBI in the contest.
• Ty Langenberg got the start throwing five innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out six.
IOWA’S NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Iowa is 8-11 all-time in NCAA Tournament play in five tournament appearances.
• Iowa is now 3-3 in the opening game of the NCAA tournament.
