Bio

Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell is entering her third season as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa. As a player, van Heuvelen Treadwill had an illustrious career as a Hawkeye.

During the 2024 season, Iowa posted 11 victories with a pair of wins over ranked foes.  The team was ranked in the ITA team rankings for a majority of the season, climbing as high as No. 61.

Iowa tallied a ranked road win at No. 75 Nebraska on March 10 before following with a 4-2 victory over No. 34 Illinois at the HTRC at week later.  Sophomore Daianne Hayashida earned All-Big Ten honors and climbed as high as No. 85 in the ITA singles rankings.  The doubles tandem of Hayashida and senior Vipasha Mehra were ranked as high at No. 66.

During the fall, Hayashida advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships — a first by a Hawkeye since 2019 — and she competed in the main draw of the ITA Women’s All-American Championships.

In her first season in a coaching capacity, van Heuvelen Treadwell led Iowa to 13 wins, including seven over ranked opponents. The Hawkeyes defended their home court, winning seven of nine matches at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex, including five of their final six contests. Iowa’s regular season win at No. 31 Illinois was its best win over a ranked opponent in 13 years. van Heuvelen Treadwell coach Samantha Mannix to All-Big Ten honors.

van Heuvelen Treadweill returned to Iowa City as a member of the coaching staff after serving as assistant coach at Delaware. She began her coaching career during the fall of 2021 as a volunteer assistant coach with the Hawkeyes.

van Heuvelen Treadwell concluded her Hawkeye career as one of the most decorated women’s tennis student-athletes in Iowa and Big Ten history. Achieving an individual ranking within the top-100 nationally in both singles and doubles, van Heuvelen Treadwell ranks second in school history with 180 combined wins. She was named first-team All-Big Ten five times and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2017.

During her final season, van Heuvelen Treadwell earned the ITA Central Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. The East Sussex, England, native was also named the ITA Central Regional Senior Player of the Year in 2020 and was the ITA Summer National Doubles Champion in 2019.

Off of the tennis court, van Heuvelen Treadwell was a four-time Academic All Big-Ten recipient and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for achieving a GPA of 3.7 or higher. She also was selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete three times and was named to the Dean’s List three times. A member of Iowa Athletics’ DEI subcommittee, van Heuvelen Treadwell also served as a mental health peer supporter for Iowa’s student-athletes.
