Thousand Taken In MLB Draft

The Toronto Bluejays selected outfielder Kyle Thousand in the 26thround of Major League Baseball’s amateur draft Wednesday. Thousand, a native of Sioux City,IA, earned second team all-Big Ten accolades in 2003.

Thousand led the Hawkeyes in six offensive categories and ranked 12th in the Big Tenwith a .355 batting average. The centerfielder paced the Hawkeyes with 20 stolen bases, the thirdhighest total in the Big Ten, and finished the season with a 17- game hit streak in league games.

Thousand led Iowa in batting average (.355), runs (42), hits (59), doubles (17) on basepercentage (.428) and stolen bases. Thousand earned third-team all-Big Ten honors in 2002 afterleading the league with eight triples, tying an Iowa single-season record .
