The University of Iowa freshman softball players Mindy Heidgerken andJenna Spratt were honored by the Iowa State Girls High School Athletic Union this week asPlayers of the Year.

Heidgerken, an outfielder from Long Grove, Iowa, was named the Iowa High School Player ofthe Year, as well as the Iowa Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year and the Class 3A Player ofthe Year and Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year. She was a first team Elite all-stateselection for the second consecutive year, hitting .463 her senior season.
Spratt was named the Iowa class 2A Player of the Year, as well as the Class 2AOffensive/Defensive Player of the Year. She was also an Elite all-state selection after hitting .532 for Clear Creek Amana her senior year.
“We are thrilled with the honors that Mindy and Jenna have received,” Iowa head coach GayleBlevins said. “They are both deserving of these honors. Jenna had an outstanding senior year,and Mindy was the talk of Iowa this summer. So many people commented to us about herperformance. They are both great examples of good things happening to good people.”
