Zumsande, Brownlee Named Assistant Coaches

University of Iowa Baseball Coach Jack Dahm announced today thehiring of Nick Zumsande and Ryan Brownlee as assistant coaches.

Zumsande will work with the Iowa pitching staff after spending the previous two seasonsas pitching coach at Indiana State University. Prior to joining the Indiana State staff, Zumsandeserved as the pitching coach at Iowa State for two seasons. He spent 15 seasons at MuscatineCommunity College, including 12 years as head coach.

Nick fills both of those voids. He is extremely well known around the state and isconsidered one of the best pitching coaches in the country,” commented Dahm.

Brownlee joins the Iowa staff as the hitting instructor and recruiting coordinator.Brownlee was a four-year starter and academic all-American at Evansville before joining hisfather, Jim Brownlee, on the Evansville bench from 1998-99. Brownlee has served as anassistant coach at James Madison University the past four seasons.

Spencer Allen was also named to the Iowa staff as the volunteer assistant coach. TheWashington, IA, native was an infielder at Iowa State before completing his career at GreenRiver Junior College. Allen’s responsibilities will include assisting with the outfielders andcoaching first base on game days. Allen will also serve as the Iowa baseball camp director.

“We are very fortunate to add Spencer to our staff. He is a young talent and is more thancapable of handling responsibilities within our program. He will be instrumental in turning thisprogram around,” said Dahm.
