EAST LANSING – The Iowa soccer team lost its final Big Ten regular season game to Michigan State 4-0 on Sunday at Old College Field. The Hawkeyes ended their conference campaign with a 0-8-2 record.
The score remained scoreless in the first half until the Spartans notched the game’s first goal at the 30:42 mark after Tiffany Laskowski assisted Michelle Perun. Michigan State added the second goal about eight minutes later on a penalty kick by Andrea Sied.
Both teams battled in the second half as there wasn’t any scoring action until the 77th minute when Trisha Kenny scored after being assisted by Nina Mastracci. Perun added her second goal of the game 46 seconds later on an unassisted goal.
In the loss, Iowa out shot Michigan State, 17-13. Eight Hawkeyes attempted at least one shot with freshman Danielle Oswald and sophomore Katelyn Quinn leading the way with four apiece. Junior goalkeeper Britta Vogele stopped six shots.
Iowa (3-11-2/0-8-2) will return home on Friday to host Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
