Iowa Baseball Set to Face New In-State Rival

Nov. 7, 2003

University of Iowa first-year head coach Jack Dahm announced earlier this week the Hawkeyes will have a new in-state rival on their 2004 schedule. The Hawkeyes and the Iowa Cubs, a triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, are scheduled to meet in a nine-inning contest April 7th at Sec Taylor Stadium in Des Moines, IA. The exhibition contest will begin at 7:05 p.m.

“This is going to be a great experience for our players. They’ll be able to compete against some former big league players and many future big league players. This opportunity will provide tremendous exposure for our program and we’re thankful towards the Iowa Cubs for this opportunity. We’re excited to play in Des Moines and hope everyone will be able to come out and see a good ballgame,” commented Dahm.

Tickets for the game will be $5 and all seats will be reserved. I-Club members will receive a $2 discount. Tickets will go on sale March 1 at the Sec Taylor Stadium box office and may also be ordered by phone at 800-464-2827 or by visiting www.iowacubs.com. Iowa Cubs season ticket holders will receive a ticket to the game with their season ticket package. Skyboxes will also be available to rent for $200.

“This is a great opportunity for baseball fans in central Iowa to not only get an early look at the 2004 Iowa Cubs, but also a chance to see a very talented University of Iowa baseball team,” said Iowa Cubs General Manager Sam Bernabe. “The Hawkeyes last played here in 1996 (against Iowa State) and we’re very excited to bring them back to Des Moines and we look forward to a very competitive baseball games.”
