Evanston, IL – The University of Iowa Hawkeyes placed sixth at the Midlands Championships, which concluded Tuesday night after two days of competition. The Hawkeyes advanced two competitors into the finals, senior Luke Eustice (125) and senior Tyler Nixt (174), but each settled for a second-place finish in their respective weight divisions. Illinois captured the team title to end Iowa’s two-year hold on the championship.

Other Hawkeye place-winners included senior Cliff Moore (3rd, 141-pounds), sophomore Ty Eustice (6th, 149-pounds) and senior Ryan Fulsaas (8th, 197-pounds).

Iowa Assistant Coach Joe Williams defeated Nixt in the 174-pound division to win his 10th straight Midlands title, a tournament record.

The Hawkeyes return to the mat January 11th at Carver Hawkeye Arena where they will host Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
