ANN ARBOR, MI – The University of Iowa wrestling team lost a close 20-16 decision to Michigan Friday night in Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, MI. Michigan improves to 11-2, 1-0 in the Big Ten, while Iowa falls to 6-3, 1-1 in the Big Ten.
Hawkeye senior Luke Eustice opened the dual with a dominating 13-3 major decision over Mark Moos at 125, collecting his 75th career victory. Eustice and Moos are scheduled for a rematch at the NWCA All-Star dual Feb. 2 in Cedar Falls, IA. At 133, Foley Dowd put Michigan on the scoreboard with a 22-6 technical fall over Trent Goodale. Hawkeye senior Cliff Moore scored at takedown in sudden victory to win a 5-3 decision over Clark Forward at 141 to make the team score 7-5. Michigan won the next three weights with two decisions and a pin, stretching the team score to 17-7. The Hawkeyes pulled within one team point on wins by Tyler Nixt (6-5) at 174, Paul Bradley (6-2) at 184 and Ryan Fulsaas (5-3) at 197, but Michigan’s Greg Wagner sealed the team victory with a 4-1 decision over redshirt freshman Ryan Fuller at heavyweight.
The Hawkeyes will face Purdue (14-2, 0-0 in the Big Ten) Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Mishawaka High School Gymnasium in Mishawaka, IN.
