Hawkeyes Travel to Kansas and Missouri

This Week: The Iowa women’s tennis team travels to Kansas Friday. Competition will begin at 11 a.m. The Hawkeyes will then travel to Missouri on Saturday to compete against the Tigers beginning at 11 a.m.

In the Rankings: The Hawkeyes are 43rd in the ITA Rankings. The rankings are voted on by every member of the ITA Regional Committee.

The Jayhawks: The Jayhawks are 1-6 this season. They have a victory over Northern Arizona. Losses have been against Boston College, Brigham Young, Mississippi, Tulsa, Utah and UNLV. Kansas’ top player is senior Emily Haylock.

The Tigers: The No. 50 Tigers are 6-3 overall. They have wins over Northern Iowa, Eastern Illinois, Tulsa, Southwest Missouri State, Purdue and Air Force. Missouri’s three losses are from Colorado, Texas and Texas A&M. Urska Juric is the top player for Missouri.

Last Weekend: The Hawkeyes won their first Big Ten competition, beating Minnesota, 4-3. Iowa won the doubles point, taking every doubles match. In singles, victories came from Anastasia Zhukova at No. 3, Deni Alexandrova at No. 5 and Hilary Tyler at No. 6. The following day, Iowa dominated Montana, 7-0.

Quoting Coach Wardlaw: “We’ve struggled with Kansas the past two years, so we’re looking to change the trend. This will be our first match against Missouri and they’ll be a tough opponent, especially at home. Doubles will be the key for the weekend.”
