Minnesota Defeats Iowa In Big Ten Finale, 1-0

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team fell to Minnesota Friday, 1-0. The Hawkeyes battled the entire 90 minutes but could not find the back of the net on a cold, windy and rainy night at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

Minnesota’s Regina Moench scored in the 38th minute for the lone goal of the match. Iowa had a few opportunities but could not capitalize. Freshman Kelsie Full was active for Iowa, recording two shots on goal. Full nearly beat Golden Gopher goalkeeper Molly Schneider early in the second half, but a diving save prevented the ball from crossing the back line.

Iowa’s defense was solid throughout the game, coming up with one defensive save on the night. Britta Vogele had two brilliant saves late in the second half to keep the game at 1-0. She tallied eight saves in the loss.

Iowa and Minnesota both played physical with four total yellow cards given out on the night. A total of 25 fouls were called as well.

Iowa hosts Creighton Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Iowa Soccer Complex. Sunday will also serve as Senior Day for the Hawkeyes.
