ANN ARBOR, MI – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team had another strong day of competition at the ITA Regionals at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, MI. The Hawkeyes had two doubles teams competing in the main draw of the doubles tournament.
The pair of junior Chaitu Malempati and freshman Bart van Monsjou were eliminated from the competition by the fourth-seeded team of Patrick Thompson and Matt Baccarani from Ball State 8-3. Juniors Kyle Markham and Brett Taylor won both of their doubles matches Sunday and moved on to the quaterfinals tomorrow. Markham and Taylor defeated Northwestern’s 12th seeded duo of Chuck Perrin and Tommy Hanns 8-2 in the second round of competition. They followed up that victory with another win, this time over Louisville’s Jhonny Berrido and Mark Kennedy 8-6.
Competition for the Hawkeyes will conclude tomorrow at the ITA Regionals in Ann Arbor, MI.
