EVANSTON, IL – The University of Iowa wrestling team fell to 6-4, 1-2 in the Big Ten, with a 22-19 loss at Northwestern Saturday night in Evanston, IL. The Wildcats snapped Iowa’s 35-match winning streak in the series with the win. Northwestern’s last win over Iowa was 18-6 in 1968. The Wildcats improved to 9-1, 2-1 in the Big Ten, with the win.

Iowa won four of the first five weight classes to take a 19-3 team lead. The Hawkeyes got pins from junior Joe Johnston (157) and redshirt freshman Mark Perry (165), a major decision from junior Ty Eustice (149) and a decision from junior Mario Galanakis (133) in the first five matches. Northwestern responded by winning the last five matches to take the dual. Iowa endured a pin at 174, an upset decision at 184 and a major decision at 197 while still holding on to a 19-16 team lead. Hawkeye freshmen Matt Fields (Hwt.) and Charlie Falck (125) each had a chance to preserve an Iowa dual win, but neither could overcome early deficits in their matches and both lost decisions.

Iowa will hit the road again next weekend for two Big Ten matches. The Hawkeyes will face Penn State (7-7, 1-2 in the Big Ten) Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) in University Park, PA, and Ohio State (6-6, 0-2 in the Big Ten) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) in Columbus, OH.
